• DMJ talks Movies: Joy

Not often is it the case that actors like Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Robert De Niro get together to tell the story of a powerful female entrepreneur. This past Christmas holiday, however, that is exactly what they did.  Joy tells the story of real-life entrepreneur, Joy Mangano.  She is responsible for the invention of common household products that make each of our lives easier every day.  Those skinny velvet hangers you have in your closet?  Yep, that was her idea.
Although she is wildly successful today, this was not always the case.  She faced years of struggle and hardship leading up to her big break.  This movie will make you want to go and do that thing you never had the courage to do before.  We here at DMJ respected Joy's resiliency because we know that running a business is not an overnight success.  It takes hard work and dedication no matter the circumstance.
Here are a few of our favorite looks from the movie:

Costume designer Michael Wilkinson shares the back story
"I designed this suit and had it made in New York for Jennifer in ivory wool crepe. We looked at vintage Yves St.Laurent and Escada for inspiration. This outfit defines the successful phase of Joy."

    Merry Christmas!

After all the parties, drinking, big dinners, now we want to relax and watch some good movies, right?

I know that everyone is talking about Star Wars right now, but that's not my type of movie. Here are my 3 picks for all the stylish ladies. If you haven't watched them yet, you should seriously consider watching them before new year :)

    Chic Holidays

    1. Iris

IRIS pairs legendary 87-year-old documentarian Albert Maysles with Iris Apfel, the quick-witted, flamboyantly dressed 93-year-old style maven who has had an outsized presence on the New York fashion scene for decades. More than a fashion film, the documentary is a story about creativity and how, even in Iris' dotage, a soaring free spirit continues to inspire.
    2. The September Issue

The September Issue is a 2009 American documentary film about the behind-the-scenes drama that follows editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and her staff during the production of the September 2007 issue of American Vogue magazine.
    3. Working Girl

Working girl is a 1988 romantic comedy film. It tells the story of a secretary, tess (Melanie griffith), working in the m&a department of a wall street investment bank. When her boss, Katherine (Sigourney Weaver), breaks her leg skiing, Tess uses Katherine's absence and connections to put forward her own idea for a merger deal. It is really fun to watch how Tess changes her style through out the movie. (and of course, it is interesting to see 1980s fashion trends.)
