  • DearMissJ's Favorite Summer Beauty Essentials

0 comments / Posted by Yixuan Lu

What's summer without a list of must-haves? DearMissJ is here to share some of our favorite summer products that will guarantee you a fashionable and flawless summer!

Get a dewy and gorgeous glow with the Becca highlight in champagne pop! This highlight enhances your natural glow while adding a subtle shine to accentuate the cheekbones.

“Ask any makeup artist what the best beauty secret is and they will say sunscreen. It's your best defense against wrinkles, sun spots and sun damage. This sunscreen goes on in a soft mist, ensuring coverage for every inch of skin.”
    — FIONA STILES, MAKEUP ARTIST
Summer is always sweaty and sticky, and you definitely don't want to cake your face on top of all that. A light translucent powder is key to controlling any shine and staying polished through out the day!

Blotting sheets are your best friend during the summer. They easily remove unwanted oils from your face without taking off your makeup! Tarte's blotting papers are our current favorite, the packaging is so cute as well!

Hoops are back and trending this season! The Addison pearl earrings are dainty yet stylish for the summer time. Easy to dress up and down, this is a perfect addition to your jewelry wardrobe!

  • How to be a fashionable and savvy wedding guest

0 comments / Posted by DearMissJ Help

I’ve reached the point in my life where I’ve gone to so many weddings that it’s becoming more
difficult to figure out what to wear each time. I used to spend lots of money on getting
a new dress for each wedding I went to but realized later that it wasn’t very economical.

The older you get, the more weddings you go to, and the more important it is to budget for
your outfit because weddings certainly aren’t cheap to attend. Here are a few tips on how to
look fabulous as a wedding guest without burning a hole in your wallet!

Rotate your dresses:  Who says you can only wear a dress once?
If I’m going to spend money on a nice dress, I sure hope I will have another occasion
to wear the dress.  Don’t be ashamed of wearing the same dress to multiple weddings.

A great way to change up your look is to have a different hairstyle the next time you wear
the same dress,  carry a different handbag, or pair your dress with different accessories.

I love adding elegant or bold statement pieces to a dress because then you bring more
attention to your new piece of jewelry rather than the dress you’ve already worn.
The large grey pearls and delicate clover pendants of
Troian necklace adds the perfect elegant accent to any outfit.

Rent the Runway:  Want to look like a million bucks without having to commit to a
    pricy designer dress?
Rent the Runway is where you can rent designer luxury dresses for
a fraction of the retail cost. Plus, if you’re the type who only likes to wear a dress once, this is a great option.

Badgley Mischka for $70? Count me in!

Ann Taylor and J.Crew wedding collections: Retail stores like Ann Taylor and J.Crew now carry
wedding collections which also have affordable dresses that can be worn to any wedding, whether
you’re a bridesmaid or wedding guest.  I recently attended a wedding wearing a dress I purchased from the
Ann Taylor wedding collection and received lots of compliments on it.

People were under the impression I had spent a lot on a designer dress only to learn that it was from Ann Taylor.
I must say I was proud of myself =)

Borrow from a friend.  Chances are, your friends also probably have a closet of dresses they’ve worn
to wedding themselves.  You should figure out which one of your friends are the closest in
size to you and ask them if you can borrow a dress.  That’s what friends are for right?

  • How Would You Wear Cleopatra? Andrea v. Jenna

0 comments / Posted by DearMissJ Help

We all love shopping for jewelry, but the real fun comes with styling your new piece.
I know you all have been asking yourself: How would I style DearMissJ’s “Cleopatra?”

Well, we asked two fashion bloggers the same question, and they came back with two very different looks.

Edgy Chic Andrea of blondebedhead.com’s edgy style might not be the typical fashion icon you
would expect to endorse pieces from DearMissJ’s more business casual line.

Don’t be mistaken, however.  The way she styles “Cleopatra” with tousled hair and
a leather jacket is effortless and edgy.  Who says pearls and leather don’t go together?
    We think they are perfect!

    andres

Business Casual Jenna of visionsofvogue.com takes a slightly more traditional
take on the DMJ classic.  In an all white jumper, black jeans, and large sunglasses,
Jenna looks like career woman on a mission.

Minimal and chic, you can’t go wrong with a classic black and white number like this one.

    jenna

These are just two of the countless ways you can style “Cleopatra” for your everyday outfits.
Edgy, business casual, minimal, boho -- the bounds are limitless.

DearMissJ can take you from office to cocktail hour.  That is the beauty of timeless jewelry.
It never goes out of style and you can wear it with everything!

Now, it is your turn to style “Cleopatra” or any other classic versatile pieces you might already have.

  • HOW TO JUGGLE IN STYLE IN SAN FRANCISCO

0 comments / Posted by DearMissJ Help

I’m someone whom you might consider your average 20-something-year-old,
professional San Franciscan woman who likes to attend fitness classes,
happy hours, and startup launch parties after work (I believe the term used nowadays is “basic bitch”).

I work in a corporate environment that enforces the “business casual” dress code,
but my interests outside of work call for athletic wear as well as trendy “night-out” pieces.
So when it comes to shopping and picking out what to wear on a daily basis,
I like to incorporate items into my wardrobe that allow me to easily transform from work
attire to going-out or working-out attire.

I commute an hour to and from my office each day, so it’s important that
I don’t have to pack an entirely different outfit to change into as it can be a pain carrying
a heavy bag on public transportation. I look for quality, style, practicality, and price
when I shop. While I appreciate brand names, I’m not a brand snob because
    1) I can’t afford it and 2) Generally I can find the same look for less (Marshalls and T.J. Maxx FTW).

That’s not to say I don’t own any branded items—I just like to mix it up with more affordable items.
Here’s a list of my favorite essentials you can incorporate into your
wardrobe for a hassle-free transformation after your work day!

Ever since I discovered these, I have not worn any other pants to work.
These are made with 12% spandex so they are stretchy and super comfortable
without sacrificing the clean and professional look. Because these pants are made
with a thick cotton material and consist of a front button and zipper, you don’t look
like you’re simply wearing yoga pants to work.

I own around 10 pairs because they cost only around $23 and come in a great selection
of colors.  Plus, you can throw these right into the laundry machine without having to worry
about damage.  Pair these with some pumps and not only do they look good in the office,
but also a casual outing after work.

    Lululemon Quickchange Vest

I’m not gonna lie, I used to be a Lululemon “hater” because I could never justify
spending that much money on workout gear...that was until I was gifted my
first set of Lulu running pants, and my life changed. I’ve come to appreciate the
quality and fit of Lululemon (yes, their yoga pants do make your butt look like you just did 100 squats).
They also have items that can you can totally rock to work or places outside of the gym.

    DearMissJ Lavender Necklace

Just like how every woman should own a little black dress, every woman should
also own a statement necklace. There have been mornings where I could care less
about putting effort into figuring out what to wear to work.
I would throw on a plain top, plain pants, and then put on a bold necklace like this one
from DearMissJ and BAM! My outfit just got better.

Sam Edelman Sporty Chic Large Tote

You can never have too many bags, but an essential to have is a classic tote.
I like to invest in large totes that can fit my laptop, running shoes, and still look
trendy to bring out to a dinner or happy hour after work without looking like you’re
carrying a duffle bag or a tacky laptop case.

This large tote from San Edelman is perfect.  I like that it’s made out of nylon, which makes
it durable and easy to clean. At the same time, it still looks classic, chic, and oh my gosh
look at the cute touch to the bottom!
